Statewide Benchmark Top 25 DRGs

The following pdf tables meet the requirements established by AB 1045 and were developed using the patient discharge data file aggregated at the hospital level. Using the statewide Top 25 Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs) as benchmarks, the table displays the total number of discharges, average charge per stay for the selected hospital and average charge per stay statewide.  Note that any particular hospital may not have discharges in all 25 of the Diagnosis Related Groups (e.g., specialty hospitals such as maternity hospitals will not have DRGs for cardiac surgery).

On October 1, 2007 the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) replaced the current 538 diagnosis-related groups (DRGs) with 745 Medicare-severity DRGs (MSDRGs). OSHPD implemented these changes with the release of its 2008 Patient Discharge Data. The grouper software is updated by CMS at the beginning of each federal fiscal year (October 1st). Version 25.0 of the grouper was applied to discharges from January 1, 2008 through September 30. 2008. MS-DRG Grouper version 26.0 was applied to the discharges from October 1 2008 through September 30, 2009.

Top 25 DRGs:

These pivot profiles and pdf tables display each individual hospital's top 25 DRGs by three categories: number of discharges, average length of stay, and average charge per stay.   These were also developed from the patient discharge data file, aggregated at the hospital level but do NOT include statewide benchmarks.
