SPREAD THE WORD! CAL-SEARCH NEEDS UNDERREPRESENTED AND/OR BILINGUAL STUDENT AND RESIDENT APPLICANTS FOR CLINICAL TRAINING

Spread the Word! California’s Student and Resident Experiences and Rotations in Community Health (Cal-SEARCH) is seeking to fill its remaining rotation slots with students and residents that are underrepresented, bilingual, and/or come from a disadvantaged background. Cal-SEARCH is continuing to accept student, resident, and site applications through June 2012.

Cal-SEARCH is a great opportunity for students and residents to get exposure to community clinics and health centers in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) and Medically Underserved Areas (MUAs) and to work with Medically Underserved Populations (MUPs). Students and residents work closely with preceptors and mentors, in order to develop a community health project.

“The clinical training helped me learn through exposure, rather than reading about it in books all day. Through Cal-SEARCH, the medical terminology comes to life and you engage yourself in the well-being of the patients,” recalled Elmer Hilo, Cal-SEARCH alumni.

To answer questions about the program and to assist you through the program requirements, the Cal-SEARCH staff will hold an informational webinar on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. For application information, visit the Cal-SEARCH web site at: www.OSHPD.ca.gov/HWDD/Cal-SEARCH/.

“This program is funded by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration.”
